Overcoming Gasket Sourcing Challenges to Keep Production on Track
Overcoming Gasket Sourcing Challenges to Keep Production on Track
Background
In November 2025, a seasoned expert in custom OEM electrical control panel enclosures approached PGC. These enclosures serve as protective cases for electrical control systems. The client also specializes in wiring harnesses, which bundle wires and connectors to transmit signals or electrical power, as well as low- and medium-voltage control panels used to manage and distribute power. In addition, they produce enclosed drive packages—boxed assemblies designed to control electric motors. They serve a range of industries, including HVAC and building technologies, water treatment and pumping systems, oil and gas, and alternative energy.
Challenge
The client chose an off-the-shelf extruded gasket profile, a pre-manufactured sealing component made by forcing material through a shaped die. However, because this mass-produced part was available only from a limited number of extruded seal manufacturers, the client faced significant constraints on sourcing, pricing, and lead times. These supply limitations created a real risk of missed production deadlines and unexpected cost overruns, putting their project timelines and budget at risk. To avoid costly delays to production, they needed a supplier who could quickly validate the design, secure supply, and deliver swiftly to meet aggressive requirements.
Solution
PGC works directly with a source for this gasket, providing immediate access to pricing and availability. PGC quickly shared the customer's print and specs with the source and obtained pricing and a match to the print's dimensions, tolerances, and material specs. By aligning the customer's needs with a specific product, PGC provided an immediate quote that met the customer's approval. PGC leveraged its partnerships to deliver the best outcome.
Results
PGC received a purchase order in November 2025 for over 50,000 linear feet of extrusion profile. By launching a stocking-and-release program, PGC enabled the customer to maintain uninterrupted production for 6 months, directly supporting their operational goals. The customer saw reduced sourcing risk, faster approvals, and a smoother path to production, without added design or lengthy qualification cycles. With PGC’s support, the project was delivered on time and on budget, solidifying a strong foundation for future collaboration.
