PGC’s Visit to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

June 14, 2017

On June 7th, John Bower and Amber Fennell, our Vice President and Marketing Manager, had the opportunity to visit and tour St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital campus in Memphis, Tennessee.   This was a wonderful way to learn more about the hospital, it’s patients, and its mission of curing childhood cancer.

Amber Fennell found the visit to be truly inspirational, where she said: “It is hard to find the words to share what visiting the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is really like.  I have attended local events and I have heard the families tell their stories, but seeing it and being in a place where so many families, regardless of creed, color, or ability to pay are given the same care, the same hope, the same opportunity to only worry about caring for their child and making them better; it is breath taking”.

St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital has raised the life expectancy for childhood cancer from 20% in 1962 (the hospital’s opening), to over 80% today.  It not just a hospital, but it’s also a research institution as well, where they conduct more clinical trials for cancer than any other children’s hospital across the U.S. and around the world.  Because of this, however, it takes around $2.4 million a day to keep the hospital running, and approximately 75% of these costs are covered by public contributions.

PGC has been affiliated with St. Jude Children’s Research & ALSAC for over 5 years now, and we’re proud to do our part to help cure this horrible disease and provide a better life for kids.
